Beginning Weaving on a Floor Loom

Come join us for five, three hour sessions, of hands-on weaving on a multi shaft table or floor loom; both jack and countermarch available. You will complete the full weaving process from winding a warp to weaving and finishing a new scarf woven in plain weave and twill. Materials for your scarf will be provided. You will have use of a dedicated floor loom for the length of the course. All other necessary weaving equipment will be available in the studio during your class. There will be direct instruction and time for having questions answered as you become acquainted with the age old craft of weaving. This is a physical class. One should be comfortable standing for prolonged periods and able to get up and down from the floor. As an accommodation; there is a table loom available for use instead of a floor loom if needed. Sunday sessions will start January 11 and go through Feb 15 (skipping the week of Jan.25). Monday evening sessions will begin January 12 and run through Feb 9.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: This class is intended for those who have not woven on a multi-shaft loom or those who have not woven in years and need a refresher.
Requirements: This is a physically active class. Students may need to stand for prolong periods, especially the first two days. They also will need to get up and down from the floor. Accommodations are possible by using a table loom instead of a floor loom. Terry will contact students upon registration to discuss which loom they will be interested in using.
Instructor: Terry Slagel
Instructor Bio: Terry has been weaving for over 30 years and has taught weaving for the past 20. In addition to many hours of coursework by a variety of master weavers, she trained as an apprentice to Becky Ashenden at Vävstuga, a Scandinavian focused weaving school in Massachusetts, for the better part of a year.
