Twined Rag Rug Weaving
Twined Rag Rug weaving – join us for a 2 day session creating a textile that can be used as a placemat or a chair cushion
The method of twining is an ancient technique practiced by many cultures around the world and dates back 25,000 years. Twining made its way into Scandinavian rag rugs and then into American culture via Scandinavian immigrants. Twined rag rugs became popular when factory made fabrics became available in the mid 19th century and again during the Great Depression.
All materials will be provided for this class as well as a twining frame for your class use. You may want to bring your favorite small scissors and a hemostat if you happen to have one.
This class will meet two weeks in a row at slightly different times.

| Skill Details: | This class is appropriate for all levels. |
| Requirements: | Scissors and hemostat (if you have one, a few will be available to share). Water bottle, comfy clothes. Please park in one of the lots or parking spaces across the street from the store or in the lot at the end of the block. |

| Instructor Bio: | “Twining - I love this process. It reminds me of when I was a kid playing around with Macrame or when I used to braid my friends’ horses’ tails before a show. It’s great therapy for fingers and wrists and relaxes the mind.” Kim’s background is 18 years teaching 3D/visual effects topics for the film and video game industry. She has education both in computer art, studio art and fiber art. During her time teaching, she also raised draft horses, Navajo Churro sheep and Angora goats and collected a lot of wool, mohair and fabric. Off time was used to delve deeper into fiber arts traditions, namely twining rugs and looks forward to sharing her experience. https://www.countrymile.life/ |
